课程简介：

This short course is organized in two parts. In the first part, we introduce a range of machine learning techniques designed for high-dimensional settings, including subset selection, shrinkage methods such as ridge and lasso, and elastic net based on penalization approaches. We also cover model selection and validation strategies such as cross-validation to balance bias and variance. In the second part, we turn to the challenge of causal inference and demonstrate how to combine machine learning with econometric frameworks to estimate treatment effects. Together, these tools offer a robust framework for causal inference in modern data environments.

王乐，现任弗吉尼亚理工大学终身教授，David M. Kohl冠名讲席教授，Kohl Centre主任，博士生导师。现任美国南方经济学协会理事，全球劳动组织（GLO）青年学者项目主任，国际著名期刊 China Economics Review和 Journal of Labor Research的联合主编，Econometric Reviews的副主编，芝加哥大学人力资本与经济机会全球工作组成员，国际劳动组织研究员，德国劳动经济学研究所研究员。

曾任哈佛大学肯尼迪政府学院研究员，中国留美经济学会理事，意大利高校及科研机构国家评估局(ANVUR)科研评估专家评审，俄克拉荷马大学终身教授，Chong K. Liew 冠名讲席教授，管理经济与大数据研究生项目主任，被授予俄克拉荷马大学最高荣誉之一的Presidential Professorship，暨南大学特聘教授，阿拉巴马大学终身教授。

王乐教授的研究领域为微观计量经济学与应用微观，曾在国际顶级经济学期刊Journal of Political Economy，Journal of Econometrics，Journal of Business and Economic Statistics，Journal of Applied Econometrics，Journal of Environmental Economics and Management等发表论文近40篇，曾主持美国农业部、教育部、卫生及公共服务部多个重大课题项目。他的研究曾于2018年获得人口经济学期刊颁发的库兹涅茨奖，2023年获得Emerald出版社颁发的杰出作者贡献奖，同年获得俄克拉荷马大学颁发的优秀跨学科奖。
