讲座题目：Can Parental Absence Be Made Up? The Effects of Multifaceted School Intervention on Left-behind Children

内容简介：We evaluate the impact of randomized intervention targeting cognitive and non-cognitive skills for left-behind children in China. We compare left-behind children who are randomized into either a group with regular video-calling with parents, an after-school tutoring group, or a control group. We find that after-school tutoring intervention leads to a 0.2 standard deviation increase in mathematics scores for left-behind children. The video-calling intervention significantly improves children’s Big-Five personality traits. The positive effects of video calling persist for nearly three years after the intervention. We demonstrate that video-calling intervention encourages left-behind children to form friendships with non-left-behind children and alleviates their feelings of missing parents. After-school tutoring intervention promotes communication among children. Our results highlight the importance of considering a school perspective when designing programs to compensate for the human capital loss for children with absent parents.

吴贾，山东大学教授、博士生导师，2021年入选山东大学齐鲁青年学者、山东省高层次人才。主要研究方向为劳动经济学和人力资本积累。代表性成果包括以第一作者在American Economic Journal: Economic Policy、Journal of Population Economics、Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization、《经济研究》、《经济学》（季刊）、《世界经济》、《金融研究》期刊发表论文30余篇。获得国家自然科学基金面上项目、青年项目资助。担任潘苏通沪港经济政策研究中心（香港）兼职研究员、香港中文大学兼职研究员。曾于2019年获暨南大学杰青第一层次人才。
