讲座题目：Online vs. In-Person Instruction: Do Women Learn Better in the Classroom?

内容简介：We examine the impact of online instruction on student learning using a field experiment at a European public university during the COVID-19 pandemic. Over 1,300 bachelor students were grouped and alternated between in-person and online lectures. Leveraging within-student, cross-course variations, we find that early in-person instruction improves exam performance, especially for women. Female students score 4% SD higher with one week of earlier in-person instruction and 10% SD higher when exposed to any in-person lectures in the first three weeks. Analysis of attendance and survey data reveals a stronger preference among women for face-to-face instruction, potentially driven by their need for social interaction during learning. Our results underscore the equity implications of adopting online teaching in higher education.

单晓月，新加坡国立大学助理教授，博士毕业于苏黎世大学。曾在宾夕法尼亚大学沃顿商学院从事博士后研究。研究兴趣包括劳动经济学、行为经济学、发展经济学、应用微观。她主要结合实地和实验室实验以及准实验方法，研究与不平等、歧视和技能积累相关的问题。核心主题是研究身份和社会地位如何影响信念、选择以及教育或劳动力市场的结果。研究成果发表在Journal of Human Resources等高质量学术期刊。
