Introduction of the Speaker: John E. Delery, Professor and Raymond F. Orr Chair, Department of management, Sam M. Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas, received his M.S. in Psychology (Memphis State University) and Ph.D. in Business Administration (Texas A&M University) majoring in Human Resource Management. His current research interests include the strategic management of human capital, the structure of human resource management systems, and employee selection. Specifically, he is interested in how the management of human capital influences organizational performance and profitability. He is a widely cited author and has published numerous research articles in top management journals including the Academy of Management Journal, Strategic Management Journal, Personnel Psychology, Industrial Relations, Human Resource Management Review, Journal of Organizational Behavior, and the Journal of Applied Social Psychology. His research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and the U.S. Department of Transportation, among others. He serves or has served on the editorial boards of the Academy of Management Journal, Academy of Management Review, Human Resource Management, Organizational Psychology Review, Quality Management Journal and Personnel Review. He has also been an active member of the Human Resources division of the Academy of Management where he served in a number of capacities, including Division Chair. In addition to his academic work, he performs consulting work on issues related to the management of people in a variety of contexts.
