School Walking Towards The Future¡¡


School of Labour and Human Resources at Renmin University of China, founded in 1983, has grown to become a foremost teaching and research institute in China, accompanied by the deepening of China's economic reform as well as the continuous amelioration of labour market. Through a series of research, teaching and social services activities, our school undertakes the lofty mission to
create innovative knowledge for China¡¯s labour science, educate talents, advise the government as well as consult for top businesses.

The past triumph of our school arises from the great efforts to educate talents in the field of labour science, intensively undertaking cutting-edge research, proactively contributing to the making of labour science related policies, laws and regulations, as well as enhancing the communication with world-class academic institutes. These will continue to be the focus of our efforts so as to take the lead in the field of labour science in the future.

Training and teaching high-level experts who are able to address future issues in the field of labour science is not only our sacred duty, but also the most challenging but glorious task facing the 21st century. Via interdisciplinary teaching and research activities involving economics, management science, psychology, law, sociology and so on, we have taught a large number of various professional talents in labour economics, labour relations, human resource management and social security for various organizations at all levels.

We have achieved a number of milestones in the history of China's labour science discipline development and programmes construction. It dates back to 1985 when our school launched an undergraduate programmes in Personnel Management for the first time; in 1993 our school took the lead in transforming the programme in Personnel Management into Human Resource Management. Over the same year, we enrolled undergraduate students studying Social Work and Social Administration (Social Security).  China's first research programme for PhD degree in labour economics was introduced in our school in 1994; in 2001 our school became the only key discipline unit of labour economics; in 2003 our school became the first academic institute in China offering Human Resource Management Programme for master and PhD degree; In 2000 our school launched the first labour relations programme for bachelor and master¡¯s degree in China. By far our school has one state-level key discipline and one post-doctoral mobile station, while offering three PhD programmes, four master programmes and three undergraduate programmes.

The guiding policies and ideology for running our school, ¡®School Founded by Research¡¯ and ¡®School Prospered for Research¡¯, have been strongly advocated since the start of new century. Through tenacious efforts and arduous struggles, our school has made remarkable achievements in the research of employment, income distribution, labour relations, human resource development and management, social security and so on. Our school has undertaken a large number of important research projects at home and abroad, including the major and key projects of National Social Science Foundation, the major research projects of Ministry of Education, the projects of National Natural Science Foundation and the projects sponsored by National Development and Reform Commission, the Central Organization Department of CPC, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Beijing Municipal Committee of CPC, the World Bank and the International Labour Organization; a large number of academic papers were published in the  SSCI journals, Social Sciences in China, Economic Research Journal, Management World and other important academic journals at home and abroad; Many of these projects has won prizes of the state, provinces and ministries.  

The School of Labour and Human Resources has always attached importance to promote international academic exchange and collaboration, and has maintained close ties with the top labour science teaching and research institutes of North America, Europe, Asia and other regions. Our strategy of internationalization has broadened our thinking and vision, increased our academic standard and ability, as well as created a platform to demonstrate our intelligence.

Over the past three decades, the School of Labour and Human Resources has grown from scratch, from small to large and from weak to strong. The School of Labour and Human Resources at the age of 30 has the ability and faith in educating more talents, overcoming more academic obstacles, and resolving more practical issues in the future, making our school a prestigious and foremost teaching and research institute of labour science in the world.
